GATX Logistics appoints Vice President For Latin American Business Development
In his new position, Mr. Simcoe will be responsible for the development of prospective customers and service partners for the growing logistics market in South America. Last year, GATX Logistics launched operations in Santiago, Chile, as a joint venture with Wackenhut
Chile S.A. The company expects to open up other markets in South America in 1998.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Simcoe served as director of international affairs for GATX Logistics. He joined the company in 1992 to assist with its start-up of operations in Mexico. He completed that assignment in 1996 where, in his role as general manager, he developed and managed daily warehousing activities in the company's 147,000 square-foot facilities near Mexico City, providing third-party distribution and logistics services to a variety of clients.
"Bob brings a great deal of experience to the job in working with the logistics needs of international companies. This will be invaluable to us in starting and managing operations for customers in Latin American countries," said Michael J. Gardner, executive vice president and chief operating officer of GATX Logistics.
Before joining GATX Logistics, Mr. Simcoe spent five years as both sales manager and certified relocation specialist for International Van Lines. In addition, he held various management positions with General Motors while living in and assigned to Canada, Brazil and
Venezuela. During his 32 years of service with General Motors, Mr. Simcoe's positions included management consultant; materials manager; coordinator of international transportation systems; project manager; manager of export operations; senior administrator for material control, procurement, warehousing and transportation; and superintendent of car and truck assembly operations.
Mr. Simcoe is a Canadian citizen, and speaks English and Spanish. He has also published articles pertaining to distribution in Mexico that have appeared in numerous trade and business publications. He has been a guest speaker at a variety of public events, including the Council of Logistics Management.
